Why December Daily in April? Partly because I told myself that even though the album was done by the end of the month, I needed to wait to finish the cover. Partly because I’d already posted the prep part. Partly because I love looking through minibooks over and over because they remind and delight me of so many thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Partly because we’re four and a half months in and I’m curious to see how effectively our new-year’s-resolution mindset and goals have actually carried into the new year. Thank you to Ali Edwards for leading me through this beautiful project. Stories on paper and film have made me appreciate my life so much more.
I couldn’t find any foundation pages online this morning that matched my December Daily color scheme so I decided to make my own. I used an awesome stamp from Blinks of Life, an old Ali Edwards Technique Tuesday stamp, and some washi I got on sale after Christmas last year from Crate and Barrel to create my own foundation pages. I love them — I think the circle will be great for writing in the date.
After putting using some stamps, washi, and Becky Higgins graph paper project life cards, I realized that I didn’t want to use blue in this album and removed all the light blue papers I had originally included. I ended up with a very traditional black, white, red, green palette that I really like. A lot of the papers and embellishments are from Pink Paislee’s Merry and Bright Line which I got for 50% off from this awesome seller on ebay.
This year, I also wanted to incorporate more white space and see through elements. Using my Silhouette and the digital cut files from last year’s Studio Calico kit, I created some diecut transparency embellishments.
I’m planning out the album much earlier this year than last because I’ll need to bring my homemade kit on the road during the holiday season. I feel a lot more confident in doing this album on the road after seeing all the foundation pages come together. I can’t wait for December to arrive!
I was really eager to buy the Studio Calico December Daily kit this year, only to discover that the Ali Edwards/SC version’s color scheme really isn’t working for me. Although they’re my favorite colors for 11 of 12 months of the year, for some reason, I really don’t like pink and aqua for Christmas.
So I’m making my own kit. I have a lot left over from last year’s kit and the other ton of holiday themed everything I already own (or recently purchased for the purpose of “making Xmas cards.” I’ll be using the white album that came with the Ali Edwards Week in the Life kit (my WITL will just be incorporated into my regular PL).
After going through my stash, I pulled together the following sheets for inspiration. What do you think?
As much as I love to travel and learn new things — did you know that in Australia, kangaroos are like bunnies and you could easily find one munching on your flower bed!! — nothing beats being home. This is especially true during December, which I like to think of as Christmas all month!
This is my first December Daily and I was flummoxed the first few weeks. I’ve never built pages in advance. I took my album and a scrapbook travel kit on a recent two week trip and managed to cobble together a few titles. But once my Thanksgiving start date rolled around, I was ready to go! Below are some shots of my December Daily so far.
